Ages 5-19, but must not be in college. No professionals(no Equity, SAG, AGMA or other union card)may perform.
What is the difference between the original Les Mis and the school editioon? Some songs have had the key changed to make it easier for young people to sing and some material was removed. There remains some material that might be considered objectionable, but which is historical. There is some objectionable language and portrayal of street women. Parents will be asked to sign a waiver acknowledging the mature content of this show.
What role will I be considered for? Auditionees will be classified into three groups, largely based on their age, height, and appearance. 5-12, 13-15, 16-19.
Ages 5-12 will be part of the children’s chorus and will appear in 5-7 scenes as children. Roles in this age group in addition to the chorus are Young Cosette, Young Eponine, Gavroche.
The Teen Chorus will appear as adults and will perform the twenty plus non-principal roles in this show.
16-19 year olds will be considered for the principal roles Jean, Vel Jean, Jerset, etc. This age group will also be part of the teen chorus and will be performing non-principal roles as well.
How should I prepare for auditions? Be familiar with the music from the show. You do not need a prepared audition piece. Everyone will sing music from the show in a group and will then solo.
Audition Dont’s- Don’t bring tape or CD. Don’t plan on singing a song from a different show unless you bring your own accompanyist.
Do’s!-do show up early-the more opportunities you have to sing, the better your chances are.
Auditionees will be asked to sing all or part of the following songs, not memorized, but with music:
Jean Veljean: Bring Him Home, must sing to high A on words “24601″

*What will the rehearsal schedule be like? *Rehearsals will be Sunday 12:0 to 4:30, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30-9:30. Chorus will be called for Sunday rehearsals only for the first month or so. Solo and ensembles will be scheduled for T and Th evenings. In March we will begin running the show and all but children’s chorus will be called to each rehearsal. As always, the rehearsal schedule will get busy as we approach show time. You must commit to tech week.
What will attendance policy be like? Les Mis is a very anbitious undertaking. It runs about 2 and 1/2 hours and has 30 scenes. There is a great deal of music and staging to learn. Therefore, reliability and punctuality are of utmost importance. School, Church, Illness take priority over this show, but other shows do not. Any conflicts must be scheduled in advance and may require verification. No warning, no call, no-shows are unacceptable. Cast members will be required to sign a letter of committment.stating an awareness of rehearsal schedule and the necessity of being at rehearsals on time. If attendance is a problem, cast members may be reassigned or dropped. The bottom line is that we want you in the show and will work as much as possible with every individual to compensate for conflicts. However, if you cannot be at rehearsals, it is detrimental to the entire process and affects the quality of your experience and the production as a whole.
What will the musical accompaniment be like? The orchestra will be primarily youthful, yet skillful players. They will begin rehearsing with the cast about six weeks before production.
How many people will be in the production? The show will be cast to capacity. As the production is to be performed at the Trenton Village Theatre, we cannot facilitate 200 people. We will cast as many as possible, proportionate to the age groups needed. Another venue may be possible, but would be complicated, expensive, and determined by venue eligibility.
